Wasps, Hornets & Bee Control

Public Awareness

Bees, Wasps and Hornets are seasonal pests that are active in the UK between the months of April and October. Even though there are many species of these individual insects, it is the Common Wasp, Hornet and the Honey Bee, that are commonplace both within and the surrounding areas of a property.
They are fairly large for insects (bees and wasps being anywhere between a 1/3rd of an adult's little finger whilst hornets are somewhere near 2/3rds) and tend to reside in locations where warmth, humidity and safe shelter are present (such as loft spaces, air-bricks, eaves, cavity spaces, soil, tree root systems and many more). All three species can be found foraging for food externally though it's the wasps and hornets that can be found foraging within a premises for food and materials, and are very likely to cause structural damage to wooden materials.
Unless a beehive is visible or activity indicates the presence of a hive (in which case we should should be contacted), the presence of bees is not something to concerned over as they are the least aggressive of the of the three species in the UK and should be left to pollinate flowers and plants. On the other hand wasps and hornets are pests to be concerned over as they both bite and sting especially with the wasp showing extreme aggression if disturbed or threatened. All being said, all three are capable of causing severe harm via their stingers causing anaphylactic shock to hypersensitive individuals. They are also capable of reproducing in the 1000s which makes them a considerable threat to occupants making their eradication extremely urgent.

Personal Preventative Measures

How to get rid of Wasps, Hornets & Bees!

The control of Wasps, Hornets and Bees can be difficult due to their abilities of flight and being able to access small holes and crevices. Weather or not that is the case there are a number of preventative measures that can be carried out by occupants to reduce the activity of all three species if not get rid of them before or whilst treatment is in progress which are listed below:

  • Check your Home and Garden starting from early spring for increased activity, or individual continued sightings as this may indicate a hive presence.
  • Also keep and eye out for Hives in which case contact us immediately!
    1. A wasp's nest will start as a pine coloured golf ball size and can be found in the following areas (lofts, garages, sheds, cavity walls or under eaves).
    2. A Hornet's nest will start as a paler shade and resembles overlapping paper mashe as a full sized nest with a large whole in the bottom.
    3. A Honey Bee nest consists of layers of small hexagon cells and are always in enclosed environments (e.g brick or floor cavities) and unless found will only be noticed by the increased activity.
    4. Bumblebees tend to nest in relatively undisturbed areas (e.g shaded corners of grass, loose soil, trees) and resemble multiple circular balls coated in a waxy surface.

  • Window and Door Mesh could be installed to prevent entry of your premises otherwise keep them shut if the areas are unattended.
  • Ensure All Surfaces (both internally and externally) are clear of food debris and sweet substances and that all food and drinks are covered or contained.
  • Ensure that All Bin Lids (both internally and externally) are Secured or that food waste is secured correctly to avoid being disturbed.
  • If you have spotted a nest keep, children, pets and yourself from entering the infested area. Vacate the room and close the door or leave the external area going back into your premises.
  • Insecticides can also be purchased for domestic use though the toxicity on these are lower than the ones used professionally which can lead to a failed treatment which is why we recommend you contact us!

We specialise in Wasp Control and Wasp Nest Removals and strongly recommend that you Do Not attempt to removal one yourself unless you have been trained professional to do so.
